Alvaro Arbeloa cancelled his final post-match press conference as the head coach of Real Madrid after their 4-2 win over Athletic Club on Saturday.
Arbeloa did not speak to the crowd the way Carlo Ancelotti did last season, and had already talked about how he felt being the coach of the team in the pre-game press conference on Friday morning.
In that conference, Arbeloa said: “I hope it’s just a ‘see you soon.’ I’ve always considered Madrid my home. I’ve been with Madrid for 20 years; it’s my home. It’s my last game this season; I don’t know if it’s the last of my life as Madrid’s coach—we never know. I’ll try to enjoy it.
“I know what the team was like when I arrived. What I’ve had to deal with. If I’d started from the beginning, it would have been different. But that’s what I had to work with, and I tried to do it the best way possible. Not my way, but the best way. We’ve done a lot of things right; I’m happy with what we’ve done.”
Seeing the club’s farewell for David Alaba and Dani Carvajal, the coach must have decided that there is no point in having a press conference after the match.
