Arizona Cardinals rookie guard Chase Bisontis has several people to thank for the fully guaranteed four-year contract he signed on May 13.
The tale began last year on May 8 when wide receiver Jayden Higgins, the second selection in the second round, signed a fully guaranteed contract with the Houston Texans.
The significance was that, prior to 2025, no second-round selection had received a fully guaranteed contract. After the first pick in the round, Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger, inked a fully guaranteed deal the following the day, a stalemate occurred in the remainder of the round as agents sought fully guaranteed contracts for their players.
How long was the wait? It wasn’t until the dam broke on July 18 that Seattle Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori, the third pick in the round, also got a fully guaranteed contract.
The final tally had the first eight choices in the round receiving fully guaranteed deals. The ninth pick, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle T.J. Sanders, had 94.62 percent of his contract guaranteed. Cardinals cornerback Will Johnson, the 15th choice, signed on July 22 with 81.4 percent guaranteed.
Now, fast forward to this year. The question became: What would be the line where the fully guaranteed money would end? It turns out to be the halfway point.
On May 1 (six days after the conclusion of the draft), Las Vegas Raiders safety Treydan Stukes (sixth in the round) signed a fully guaranteed deal. Many others quickly fell in line with Atlanta Falcons cornerback Avieon Terrell (16th in the round) being the last fully guaranteed contract on May 14.
There are three second-rounders yet to sign at picks 9, 11 and 13, but they will surely wind up with full guarantees.
The day after Terrell signed, Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Lee Hunter signed a contract with 94.39 percent guaranteed.
What are the details of Bisontis' contract?
As for Bisontis, the total value of his contract is $13,258,732, including a signing bonus of $6,102,712.
The base salaries are the minimum of $885,000 for this year, but higher than the minimum for the next three years:
