The new owners of the Seattle Seahawks will meet with the media, on the occasion of the day of their first game in charge.

Via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, the Khosla family will hold a press conference at Lumen Field, roughly six hours before Wednesday night's season opener against the Patriots.

It will be the first public comments from Vinod (team chairman), Neeru (controlling owner), and Neal (presumed future owner) Khosla since the approval of their purchase of the franchise, two weeks ago. On that occasion, Vinod committed a football faux pas by declaring that he was, and still is, a fan of the Steelers — and that he still watches all Steelers games.

The remark, a clear unforced error, sparked a reaction from fans and media. Which sparked a reaction from Khosla. Which has prompted most to overlook the fact that he still owns more than three percent of the 49ers. (A sale will happen, at some point.)

Everyone who falls in love with the NFL does so not as a Rob Lowe-style generalized fan of the game but as an ardent supporter of one specific team. If that passion results in a career in or around football, the priorities inevitably shift.

In those very rare circumstances where a football fan amasses enough wealth to buy a team, it's even more rare that the pigskin planets will align to allow a purchase of the franchise that sparked the initial interest in the sport.

Would Vinod Khosla have bought the Steelers? Sure, if they'd been for sale. But they're not, they've never been, and they possibly never will be.

So he had to pivot to the asset that was on the market. And with at least 30 percent of $9.612 billion on the line, Khosla will find a way to compartmentalize his feelings for the Steelers when it's time to play them in 2027.

Or, in theory, to cap the 2026 season.
