UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has suggested FIFA's World Cup ticketing setup may go against the essence of the sport, touting UEFA's pricing model for its European championships.

"There are enough rich people in the United States that stadiums, probably, for the big matches will be full. But is this the essence of football? I’m not sure," Čeferin said last week in Austria as that country's FA opened a new facility.

"That’s why UEFA still keeps the same prices for the next Euros, for the fans. I think that if you really want to get more revenues, you can easily raise the prices of skyboxes where the richest people in the world are buying skyboxes, but don’t take football away from the supporters.

"If the ticket for the final is $7,500 plus airline tickets, plus hotels, there are not many fans, serious fans, dedicated fans that can afford that. Of course, they will say in the end, 'It was still full!' But is the essence of football? I'm not sure."

UEFA has attempted to keep costs low for the Euros, with prices for the 2028 tournament in the UK and Ireland set to stay the same as the 2024 edition in Germany.

A "Fans First" ticket is set to start at around $35, with the next category up around $70 according to the 2024 price scale. The governing body also has pledged not to use dynamic pricing and says 10,000 supporters' tickets will be allocated to each nation for the group stage.
