World Series Game 3 — Milwaukee Brewers 10, Tampa Bay Rays 1. MIL leads series 3-0.
That was a beating. Milwaukee came into Tropicana and put up 16 hits against a Tampa Bay staff that had no answers all night. The Rays managed 3 hits and 1 error. Not exactly the home-field bounce-back moment their fans were hoping for.
Robert Gasser of the Milwaukee Brewers was the story on the mound. Six innings, 1 hit, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts on 75 pitches. That is a gem in any game, let alone Game 3 of the World Series. He gets the win. Antonio Senzatela came on and threw 2.0 more innings of nothing — 0 hits, 0 earned runs, 26 pitches. Milwaukee's pitching staff was almost insulting last night.
On the other side, Freddy Peralta of the Tampa Bay Rays had a rough one: 4.2 innings, 7 hits, 5 earned runs, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts on 87 pitches. Takes the loss. That's a tough spot for a staff that needed length and got none.
Offensively, Jackson Chourio went 4-5 with 2 runs. Brice Turang went 3-5 with 2 RBI. William Contreras and Christian Yelich both contributed. Even Cooper Pratt chipped in with 2 RBI. It was a full lineup effort. The only Ray to drive in a run was Yandy Diaz, who went 2-4 with 1 RBI — which tells you everything about how the night went for Tampa Bay.
A 103-59 club rolling through the postseason like this is something to watch. The Rays at 98-64 have not looked like themselves.
Given how Gasser pitched last night, does anyone think Tampa Bay actually has a realistic path back in this series?
