Milwaukee Brewers 4, Tampa Bay Rays 1 – MIL wins series 4-1
Well, it's done. The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions, closing it out last night at Tropicana Field in five games.
The story was Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers. Kid went 5.2 innings, gave up 2 hits, walked 1, struck out 2, and did not allow an earned run on 86 pitches. That's a big-game performance in a close-out game on the road. Trevor Megill came on for the Brewers and finished it – 2.0 innings, 3 strikeouts, let 1 run in on 29 pitches, but it didn't matter by then.
Offensively Milwaukee did it with 8 hits and kept it simple. Cooper Pratt of the Brewers went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Brice Turang went 2-for-4 and scored. Nobody going deep, nobody getting walked – just put the ball in play and make things happen.
For Tampa Bay, Drew Rasmussen took the loss. He gave the Rays 4.0 innings, 4 strikeouts, only 48 pitches, but he surrendered a run and the offense (4 hits on the night) never gave him anything to work with. Chandler Simpson went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Tampa Bay, but that was about it.
The Rays finished the regular season 98-64 and couldn't get it done. The Brewers at 103-59 were the better team all year and proved it on the biggest stage.
Small market, no apologies, first title. Respect where it's due.
What's your read on whether Misiorowski becomes a true ace or a postseason specialist going forward?
