After trading the ice rink for the golf links, Austin Lemieux is proving the gentleman’s game isn’t just for the offseason.
The former college hockey player and son of NHL legend Mario Lemieux qualified for the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship this week after he shot a 66 — the same number his father wore throughout his Hall of Fame career — in Monday’s qualifying event at The Country Club of Winter Haven in Winter Haven, Fla.
It will be Lemieux’s first-ever PGA Tour event and he will maintain his amateur status in the tournament. In September, he won the 2026 Western Pennsylvania Golf Association (WPGA) Mid-Amateur Championship.
The Bermuda will be played at the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda, starting Thursday. The purse is $6 million and is one of the final events on the 2026 PGA Tour calendar.
Lemieux, 30, had a successful hockey career before he made the switch to professional golf. He played a season in the USHL before spending two seasons at Arizona State University. He had seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 66 career NCAA games. Lemeiux even participated in multiple development camps with the Penguins, but ultimately never signed an NHL contract before retiring in 2020.

Pretty damn cool story at todays Monday Q for Bermuda (played ahead of time so players can arrange travel).
Austin Lemieux, son of the legendary Mario Lemieux just shot 66 and qualified for his first ever PGA Tour event.
The 30 year old is still an amateur and will be playing in his first ever PGA Tour event. He played hockey at Arizona State before pursuing a career in golf.
Austin has won many amateur events and wins often on the Minor League Tour in Florida. In fact last week shot 65-65 and won on the 3rd playoff hole on that tour. The field of pros he beat included Parker Coody, Bo Hoag, and Gavin Hall, among others.
He’s legit and adds a pretty cool story line to the field.
