A former prospect has inked a new deal with his new team.
On Monday, the Colorado Avalanche announced that the team has signed forward Fabian Lysell to a one-year contract.
The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Lysellās signing rights were acquired by the Avalanche from the Boston Bruins last month in a one-for-one trade, with the Avs sending forward Ivan Ivan to Boston as part of the deal involving pending restricted free agents. Lysell had come to the end of his three-year entry-level contract this past year, with that deal carrying an NHL AAV of $ 1,034,167 (thanks to potential bonuses) and a minor-league salary of $80,000.
The Gothenburg, Sweden native was getting most of his money from the latter half of the contract. In his first three years as a pro in North America, he played for the Bruinsā American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins. While he has been a solid scorer in the minors, the young winger has struggled to climb his way to becoming an everyday NHLer. His lone experience with Boston came during the 2024-25 campaign, which saw him score a goal and two assists in 12 games.
The 23-year-old had arguably his best season in Providence this past year. On a team that finished with the best record in the AHL, Lysell posted career highs in goals (17) and points (42), finishing sixth on the team in scoring. He appeared in just one game in the Calder Cup Playoffs, as the Bruins were shockingly eliminated in the Atlantic Division Semifinals by the Springfield Thunderbirds.
In 219 regular-season games in the AHL, Lysell has notched 57 goals and 106 assists for 163 points, with another three assists in 12 postseason contests.
Prior to his pro career on this side of the pond, Lysell earned some hardward on the international scene, winning the bronze medal at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 Menās World Champions and 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
