Lundestrom, 26, ruptured his right Achilles tendon during a training session earlier this offseason. He is expected to return to action in early November. It was the second major Achilles injury of his career, as he tore his left Achilles tendon during offseason training in 2023.

The Swedish national played 68 games last season, putting up four goals and eight assists for 12 points.

Originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round (23rd overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Lundestrom split his first two post-draft seasons between the Ducks and their AHL affiliate San Diego Gulls. In 30 total NHL games over that time, he had no goals and just six assists.

In 41 games for Anaheim in the 2020-21 season, he notched six goals and three assists for nine points. He had his career-best campaign in the 2021-22 season, registering 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in 80 points.

Injuries slowed Lundestrom following that 2021-22 season, missing significant time with a broken finger and the aforementioned Achilles injury. In the 2022-23 season, he played 61 games and put up four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. In 2023-24, he had five goals and six assists for 11 points in 46 games.

In 2024-25, his final season with the Ducks, he scored four goals and added 11 assists for 15 points in 79 games.

In July of 2025, he signed a two-year, $2.6 million deal with Columbus as an unrestricted free agent.

When Lundestrom does return to action next season, he’ll likely line up as the Blue Jackets’ fourth-line center.

Lundestrom is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent upon the expiry of his deal next offseason.
