A tough break for a young blueliner who has seemingly established himself as a full-time NHLer.
On Wednesday, St. Louis Blues general manager Alex Steen announced that defenseman Tyler Tucker underwent successful knee surgery and will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
Specifically, Tucker had an arthroscopic procedure performed on his right knee. He reportedly suffered the injury during practice during training camp and was placed on injured reserve on Monday, along with fellow defender Logan Mailloux.
Tucker is coming off his first full-time season in the NHL. During the 2025-26 campaign, the 26-year-old appeared in 69 games, scoring three goals and 14 assists for 17 points. He also posted a plus/minus of -4 while averaging 14:22 of ice time per game. It was a promising year for Tucker, who had played fewer than 40 games with the Blues in each of the previous three years.
With Tucker and Mailloux out, the Blues are going to trot out a very veteran-laden blue line to start the new season, with names like Colton Parayko, Cam Fowler and Brandon Carlo manning the back end, with Theo Lindstein and Philip Broberg also expected to play heavy minutes.
Tucker is heading into the final season of his two-year contract, which has an AAV of $925,000.
The Thunder Bay, Ont. native has appeared in 159 regular-season games with St. Louis, scoring eight goals and 22 assists for 30 points. He also appeared in three games during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring a goal. In 167 regular-season contests with the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate, Tucker has posted 11 goals and 45 assists for 56 points, with another two points in 20 Calder Cup Playoff appearances.
Tucker was originally taken by the Blues in the seventh round, 200th overall, of the 2018 NHL Draft.
The Blues open the new season on Friday night against the rival Dallas Stars.
