The Boston Bruins have acquired defenseman Will Borgen from the New York Rangers in exchange for a pair of draft picks, New York Post Rangers beat writer Mollie Walker reported Wednesday afternoon.

According to Walker, the Bruins will send the Rangers a 2027 second-round pick and a conditional 2028 third-round pick in exchange for Borgen. The 2028 pick can become a second-rounder if the Bruins make the Eastern Conference Final in either 2027 or 2028 and Borgen plays in at least 50 percent of their playoff games.

Borgen, 29, recorded five goals and 15 points while averaging 18:03 of ice time in 75 games with the Rangers during the 2025-26 regular season. The 6’3″ right-shot defender has four years remaining on his current contract, which carries a $4.1 million annual cap hit.

The Rangers previously acquired Borgen from the Seattle Kraken midway through the 2024-25 season as part of the trade that sent Kaapo Kakko to the Pacific Northwest. In that deal, Seattle received Kakko and a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for Borgen and a 2025 third-round pick.

The Buffalo Sabres originally selected Borgen in the fourth round (No. 92 overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. After three seasons at St. Cloud State University, Borgen turned pro with the Sabres in 2018; he appeared in 14 games over parts of two seasons in Buffalo before being claimed by Seattle in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft.

Borgen appeared in parts of four seasons with the Kraken, topping out with three goals and 25 points in 82 games with the club in the 2023-24 season. He also helped the Kraken make their only Stanley Cup Playoff berth to date in 2023.

In 373 career NHL games over parts of seven seasons with the Sabres, Kraken, and Rangers, Borgen has collected 18 goals and 83 points. He’s added one goal and three points in 14 playoff games, all with Seattle.
