The Boston Bruins were busy bulking up the team’s pipeline on Wednesday afternoon.
The club announced the signings of forwards Brendan Gaunce and Brian Halonen, defenseman Maxence Guenette and goaltender Jiri Patera to two-way contracts. Gaunce and Halonen signed two-year deals, while Guenette and Patera inked one-year pacts.
Gaunce, 32, previously served as captain of the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, where he had 16 goals and 36 points in 44 games last year. He also had two goals and six points in 25 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, adding to his career total of 15 goals and 35 points in 214 career games. Drafted 26th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 2012, Gaunce is back for his second tour of duty with Boston after getting an assist in his lone game with the club back in 2019-20.
Halonen, 27, had 20 goals and 34 points in 51 games with the AHL’s Utica Comets last year. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Jersey Devils in 2022, and would register two points for the club this past season.
Guenette, 25, played in 46 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last year, totalling 24 points. He also has eight NHL games to his credit, but didn’t register a point while with the Ottawa Senators.
Patera, 27, went 12-14-2 with a .910 save percentage with the Abbotsford Canucks this past year. He has nine starts in the NHL between Vancouver and Vegas, boasting a 3-4-1 record in that span.
All four players are expected to help out the AHL’s Providence Bruins this season. The team has fallen in the division semifinals for four straight years, with the 2025-26 result especially tough after posting a 54-16-2 record over 72 games.
The Bruins have $5 million in cap space after the signings of Connor Clifton and Jordan Harris earlier today.
