Caitlin Clark had quite a fiery return to the court after missing Wednesday night’s game with back soreness, as she clashed with officials and opponents throughout the game. But even if she wasn’t necessarily happy with the officiating, it sounds like she would have toned it down a little bit had she realized she received a technical foul before the half.

Just before halftime, Clark and Janelle Salaun were each assessed a technical foul for their on-court interaction after the buzzer. Since it was a double technical, no free throws were awarded, but each player was assessed a foul.

Most importantly, each player was given their first technical foul; a second would lead to an ejection.

Clark continued to play quite freely throughout the second half as she spoke her mind to opponents and officials. As it turns out, there was a reason for that: she didn’t know she got the first technical.

After the game, Clark was asked about the double technical before halftime, and she made it clear that this was the first time she was hearing about it.

“Oh, did I get a technical?” Clark asked, genuinely unaware that she had received a technical foul before the end of the half. “No way.”

That said, Clark indicated that she wasn’t exactly surprised to learn she received a technical, as she subtly criticized the referees.

“I guess I have some fines coming my way.”

“Oh, well, it just makes sense with the refs tonight, so I’m not surprised,” Clark added with a smile.

That said, Clark did admit that had she known she received a technical foul in the first half, she would have been a bit more careful in the second half to avoid a potential second technical foul, which would have led to an ejection.

Instead, Clark was quite fiery throughout the second half as she did not hold back from taunting opponents and chirping at officials.

“Wow, I could have gotten ejected. I should have been a little bit safer in the second half,” Clark admitted.

Clark then admitted that she probably has “some fines coming my way” as a result of the technical foul and the flagrant foul. She also continued to quietly criticize the officiating while trying her best to avoid receiving more fines.

“The refs were interesting,” Clark said. “But I’m not going to say anything else, because obviously I’ve got about $1,000 worth of fines coming my way.”

Of the incident that led to the technical foul, Clark insists that she was just trying to make a basketball play and had no idea she was ever assessed a technical foul.

“I was just trying to get the rebound, and I didn’t know that I got a technical foul,” Clark said. “Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.”
