Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martínez was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury during Saturday's victory against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The 34-year-old collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the 67th minute while rushing from his goal to punch away a free kick. Martínez received extended treatment from Chelsea physios and paramedics before being stretchered off with oxygen. Branthwaite recovered quickly after receiving treatment on the pitch.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso said Martínez was conscious when leaving the stadium and that the hospital visit was for precautionary tests. Mike Penders, 21, replaced Martínez in the 75th minute. Officials added injury time.
Pedro Neto scored both goals in the 2-0 win and afterward dedicated the victory to his injured teammate. "Shame for Emi but we wish you all the best. This win is for him," Neto said.
