The Chicago Cubs have hired Steve Miller as vice president of international scouting, the club announced.

Miller spent more than a dozen seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, including the last six as international scouting director after his promotion in 2019. He originally joined the Rays in 2013 following seven years as an area scout with the Toronto Blue Jays, a role he began in 2006.

The Cubs restructured their international scouting department earlier this season. Former VP Louie Eljaua moved to a different role, while Alex Suarez became special assistant to president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer, according to The Athletic.

Chicago's recent international signings yielded trade assets at this year's deadline. Infielder Jefferson Rojas, signed at age 17 from the Dominican Republic, went to the Mets for right-hander Clay Holmes and is now among the top prospects in the Mets' system. Catcher Moisés Ballesteros, signed out of Venezuela in 2021, was dealt to the Angels for reliever Ryan Zeferjahn.

Francys Romero of BeisbolFR first reported Miller's hiring.
