The National League Rawlings Gold Glove Award finalists have been announced, with winners set to be named Sunday, November 1. Three players are in contention at each position, including a utility player category reintroduced for the first time since 2022.
Voting comprises 75 percent from managers and coaches, who may submit up to six ballots per team while excluding their own players, and 25 percent from the SABR Defensive Index. Utility finalists are selected through a defensive formula co-developed by Rawlings and SABR.
The Chicago Cubs placed six players among the finalists, the most of any NL club. Dansby Swanson seeks his third career Gold Glove at shortstop, while Ian Happ aims for his fifth consecutive award in left field. Pete Crow-Armstrong leads all MLB finalists with 23 Defensive Runs Saved, plus-26 Fielding Run Value and 26 Outs Above Average in center field. Seiya Suzuki paced all right fielders with 14 Defensive Runs Saved, and Alex Bregman joins Max Muncy and Geraldo Perdomo on the infield finalist list.
Other notable finalists include Braves pitcher Chris Sale pursuing his second Gold Glove, Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno seeking his second award, and Brewers second baseman Brice Turang aiming to repeat his 2024 victory.
One observer questioned the selection process, stating, "I have to assume they didn't want to give the Cubs too many spots so that's why they omitted Hoerner."
