The New Jersey Devils acquired defenseman Declan Chisholm from the Washington Capitals on Thursday in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Chisholm scored a goal and added six assists for seven points in 26 regular-season games with the Capitals last season. In 125 career games, the 26-year-old has six goals and 22 assists for 28 points with Washington, Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets.

The left-handed defender has also played in 146 career AHL regular-season games, where he’s recorded 16 goals and 75 assists for 91 points.

Chisholm, a Bowmanville, Ont., native was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Across four junior seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, he scored 22 goals and added 120 assists for 142 points in 214 career games.

Chisholm represented Canada at the World Under-17 Championship in 2017, earning a silver medal.

Earlier in the day, the Devils acquired center Amadeus Lombardi in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for their fourth-round pick in this weekend’s 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Two days prior, the Capitals acquired forward Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Connor McMichael, prospect Milton Gastrin, and the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Kyrou, 28, scored 18 goals and added 28 assists for 46 points in 72 games with the Blues in 2025-26. He has five years remaining on a contract that pays him $8.125 million per season.
