Still drinking my coffee this Sunday morning and I've got notes spread all over the desk. Good Saturday for the unranked crowd. Let me run through what caught my eye.
The big upset news first. No. 1 Georgia dropped one at home to Auburn (4-2, unranked). No. 7 Texas fell to Florida (5-2, unranked) at DKR. No. 16 Mississippi State got shut out at LSU. No. 18 Oklahoma State lost at No. 20 Houston. Lot of chaos in the poll picture.
Now the kids.
Michael Hawkins Jr. (West Virginia) is the one I keep coming back to. West Virginia topped Cincinnati in a wild one and this sophomore QB went 25/33 for 464 yards, 3 TDs, 0 interceptions, 82.8 QBR. That's a clean, efficient game under pressure. He's not a name most people know yet. Write it down.
Baylor Hayes (Tulsa) deserves a look too. 20/27, 249 yards, 3 TDs, no picks, 87.1 QBR. Best efficiency number of any QB in the pack. Tulsa's not ranked, not talked about. That line is hard to ignore.
Evan Medders (Air Force) carried 18 times for 152 yards, 8.4 average, 3 TDs, long of 32. Option back doing option back things, but 3 rushing TDs on 18 carries is real production.
Kamerin McDowell-Moore (Elon) - freshman RB, 21 carries, 164 yards, 7.8 average, long of 53. FCS kid, I know, but a freshman hitting that average on 21 carries is worth noting for later.
Anybody else catch a name Saturday that the rest of us probably slept on?
