The Philadelphia Flyers have opened the season 0-6-3 but earned their second consecutive win Monday against the Colorado Avalanche.
Injuries have depleted the roster. Forwards Tyson Foerster, Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett are sidelined, along with defensemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Cam York. Foerster played Saturday against the Ottawa Senators, while the others have missed multiple contests. Recalled forwards Alex Bump and Cole Knuble joined Denver Barkey in the lineup versus Colorado.
Wingers Porter Martone and Matvei Michkov produced four goals and two assists between them across the previous three contests. Trevor Zegras has one goal and three assists in his past two games since returning to wing with Christian Dvorak.
Trade speculation surrounds multiple Flyers. Konecny, 29, has three assists in five games and carries an eight-year, $70-million contract with a no-movement clause, though the team may explore a deal regardless. Tippett, 27, has a 10-team no-trade list through 2030 and a $6.2-million AAV through 2032. A Western Conference general manager called Konecny the "better all-around player" and more of a creator. League sources indicate healthy interest in Konecny dating to last season's Trade Deadline, while team sources say more historical calls involved Tippett.
The Flyers have targeted Seattle Kraken center Matty Beniers, the 2021 second-overall pick. Seattle likes Foerster, but Philadelphia is unwilling to move him. A package of Tippett and center prospect Jett Luchanko is more appealing to the Flyers. Oliver Bonk, a 2023 first-round pick, has played top-pairing minutes with Travis Sanheim. Hunter McDonald made his season debut Monday. A Flyers source said something must change with the wingers logjam.
