The Philadelphia Flyers have finally come to an agreement with defenseman Jamie Drysdale, as the two parties have settled on a four-year contract with a $6.5 million cap hit.
Fourth Period and Daily Faceoff insider David Pagnotta was the first to report on a deal being in the works in the beginning of July, initially saying the deal was a multi-year deal in the neighborhood of $6 million.
Drysdale was a restricted free agent after the conclusion of his three-year contract with a $2.3 million cap hit. He had elected for arbitration, with his hearing scheduled for July 20th, so him and the Flyers get a deal done three days prior to requiring that route.
At this point in time, the structuring of Drysdale’s contract, including any bonuses or clauses included in the contract, have yet to be confirmed. He’s signed to 6.25% of the 2026-27 salary cap until his age 28 season, and it takes him into his first two years as an unrestricted free agent. His closest contract comparables is New York Rangers defenseman Sean Durzi, who is in the third year of a four-year contract with a $6 million cap hit.
Drysdale is coming off of his best season, as he had a career-high eight goals along with 24 assists and 32 points in 78 games. He also tied his career high in points, having previously gotten 32 in 2021-22, but it came in three fewer games.
Drysdale’s success continued into the postseason, as he had two goals and two assists for four points in 10 games.
The Flyers have had an active summer, as they’ve extended Dan Vladar, Tyson Foerster and Trevor Zegras, acquired Joseph Woll via trade, dealt Garnet Hathaway and Emil Andrae, signed Noel Acciari and Zach Aston-Reese, and also attempted to sign Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson via an offer sheet. After signing Drysdale, Philadelphia still has $13,940,416 in cap space according to PuckPedia with two RFAs left to re-sign in Nikita Grebenkin and Hunter McDonald.
