The Vegas Golden Knights are in tight against the upper limit of the NHL salary cap, but general manager Kelly McCrimmon continues to land players on low-cost deals to make the situation work.
According to PuckPedia, the Knights have signed winger Victor Olofsson to a one-year contract with a price tag of roughly $1.638 million. This will mark Olofsson’s second stint with the Golden Knights, as he had 29 points in 56 games with the club during the 2024-25 campaign.
Olofsson spent this past season split between the Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames, and he combined for 13 goals, 18 assists and 31 points between the two clubs.
The 30-year-old Swede has racked up 118 goals and 124 assists for 242 career points in regular season appearances. Prior to joining the Golden Knights two years ago, he spent the entirety of his career with the Buffalo Sabres.
Vegas also bolstered its defensive unit Wednesday evening, as according to insider Chris Johnston of The Athletic, the Golden Knights secured the return of right-handed blueliner Dylan Coghlan with a two-year, one-way contract that will check in at a cap hit of $875,000.
Coghlan spent most of last season with the team’s AHL affiliate Henderson Silver Knights, but he appeared in three regular season NHL games before posting 3 points in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games, as he became a more central figure on the team during Vegas’ run to the Stanley Cup Final.
McCrimmon has made several moves around the margins to free up space. On Tuesday, he cleared $2.7 million in space by sending Kaeden Korczak to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Parker Wotherspoon. After the Penguins retained 50% of Wotherspoon’s contract, the solid defender will cost just $500,000 against the cap for Vegas.
The Knights also dealt veteran winger Keegan Kolesar to the Detroit Red Wings for draft pickings on Wednesday afternoon, clearing an additional $2.5 million.
Vegas needed to clear additional space after signing Rasmus Andersson to a hefty contract that comes with a cap hit of $8.5 million, making him the highest-paid member on the Golden Knights’ defense.
