ALCS Game 4 — Tampa Bay Rays 7, Cleveland Guardians 3
Progressive Field | Series tied 2-2
Tampa Bay took the road game last night and evened this thing up. The Rays put up 7 runs on 11 hits and played clean ball — zero errors. Cleveland committed 2 and it showed.
Nick Martinez (Tampa Bay Rays) was the story on the mound. 5.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 earned run, 79 pitches. That's exactly the outing you need from your starter when you're trying to steal one in somebody else's park. Gets the W.
Offensively, Yandy Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays) went 2-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a homer. Jonathan Aranda (Tampa Bay Rays) was just as good — 3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI, a walk. Richie Palacios (Tampa Bay Rays) added a 3-for-4 night and scored twice. That's three guys doing real damage at the top of the order.
For Cleveland, Travis Bazzana (Cleveland Guardians) gave the home crowd something — 2-for-3, a homer, an RBI, a walk. But Daniel Espino (Cleveland Guardians) takes the loss. Foster Griffin (Cleveland Guardians) came in and actually held it together — 3.2 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned, 5 strikeouts — but the damage was already done.
The Guardians (85-77 in the regular season) are now in a best-of-three against a Rays club that went 98-64. This series has real legs now.
Who do you trust more in a deciding game if it gets there — Tampa Bay's pitching depth or Cleveland's home crowd factor?
