A familiar name is stepping back into a front office in the NHL.
On Tuesday, Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced several changes within the organization’s hockey operations, including the hiring of former Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams as his senior advisor. Dennis Bonvie and Jeremy Rogalski have been named assistant general managers, with Alex Gimenez being named director of hockey operations, collective bargaining agreement.
“As we continue to build our staff, these changes recognize the hard work and growth of people within our organization while also adding experienced voices to our group,” Sweeney said in a release. “I’m confident Kevyn, Dennis, Jeremy and Alex will each play an important role as we continue to improve our team both this upcoming season and beyond. I’d also like to thank Evan for his contributions over the past several seasons. He has been a valued member of our Hockey Operations Department, and we appreciate everything he has done for our organization. We wish Evan and his family all the best as he pursues his next opportunity in the National Hockey League.”
This is Adams’ first NHL job since he was fired by the Sabres early last season. It came after several years of futility for Buffalo, which saw the team’s postseason drought reach 14 years under his guidance. After the Stanley Cup champion player was let go, the Sabres went on a run and ended up winning the Atlantic Division, clinching a playoff spot for the first time since 2011.
Bonvie had been the Bruins’ director of pro scouting since the 2022-23 season, with him being promoted to AGM, with a focus on player personnel. Rogalski was the director of hockey analytics since July 2017, and will continue his work in analytics and strategy. Gimenez is stepping into a newly created role that “will be responsible for contract negotiations, salary cap management, CBA compliance and player acquisition strategy.” Gimenez had served as the manager of hockey analytics and strategic projects for the PWHL since January.
On top of the additions and promotions, the Bruins also announced that, effective August 1, Evan Gold will exit the team to pursue other opportunities.
