With three goals in a span of just 39 seconds in the third period of Saturday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena, the Carolina Hurricanes set a new record for the fastest three goals in Stanley Cup Final history.

Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall, and Jordan Staal scored in rapid succession with just over seven minutes gone in the third period to cut a 4-0 Golden Knights lead to just one goal — in the process, breaking a 72-year-old record for the quickest trio of goals in the history of the NHL’s championship series.

ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski shared the news of Carolina breaking the record, which was previously set by the Montreal Canadiens in Game 2 of the 1954 Stanley Cup Final; Dickie Moore and Maurice Richard combined for three goals just 56 seconds apart against the Detroit Red Wings in the second period.

That was the fastest 3 goals by one team ever in a Stanley Cup Final game — 39 seconds, topping the previous record of 56 seconds in Game 2 of the 1954 Final.

Saturday’s game in Vegas featured multiple record-breaking moments. Earlier in the game, Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner netted the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history while also setting a new Vegas club record for most points in a single playoff run.

The Golden Knights led Game 3 by a 4-0 score after two periods off of Marner’s hat trick and an additional goal by Tomas Hertl; additionally, Vegas scored two goals in the second period that were disallowed by the officiating crew.

Martinook got the Hurricanes on the board at the 7:03 mark of the final frame; Hall added his sixth goal of the postseason just 26 seconds later, followed by Staal’s fifth of the playoffs with 7:42 elapsed in the period. Finally, Andrei Svechnikov scored with 1:42 left in the third period to complete the comeback for Carolina.

The Golden Knights and Hurricanes entered Saturday’s game tied at one win apiece in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. The teams split the first two games of the series at Lenovo Arena in Raleigh before the series shifted to T-Mobile Arena on the Vegas Strip.
