The Seattle Kraken are making sure one of their recent acquisitions will be sticking around.
On Wednesday, the team announced that they have signed forward Mackie Samoskevich to a three-year contract extension.
The deal will carry an average annual value (AAV) of $3.85 million.
Seattle acquired Samoskevich in a trade with the Florida Panthers on June 21 in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, which was later sent to the Ottawa Senators in the Brady Tkachuk trade, and a conditional 2027 second-round pick.
Samoskevich, 23, had 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points in 77 games with the Panthers last season.
Initially selected by Florida out of the USHLās Chicago Steel in the first round (24th overall) of the 2021 draft, Samoskevich played two seasons for the University of Michigan after getting drafted. Over those two years, the Newtown, Connecticut native had 30 goals and 42 assists for 72 points in 79 combined games.
Samoskevich became a full-time professional in the 2023-24 season, playing 62 games for Floridaās American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Charlotte Checkers, notching an impressive 22 goals and 32 assists for 54 points in 62 games. He also went pointless in seven NHL games that year.
In the 2024-25 season, Samoskevich became a regular NHLer, registering 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points in 72 games for the Panthers. He played in four of the Panthersā playoff games that season, in which he recorded one assist, on the teamās run to their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship.
Internationally, Samoskevich played for the United States at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he had three assists in five games as the United States lost to Czechia in the quarterfinals.
