The deal will carry the minimum cap hit of $850,000 at the NHL level. Ostman is scheduled to become a restricted free agent once again at the expiry of this deal next offseason.

Ostman, 25, started one game for Seattle last season, a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche in mid-April that saw him stop 33 of 35 shots. He spent the majority of last season with the Kraken’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds, where he posted a 17-15-3 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.81 goals-against average in 36 appearances.

The Swedish national began his professional career when he signed with Seattle as an undrafted free agent in April of 2024. Prior to that, he enjoyed a four-year collegiate career with the University of Maine which followed one season with the Chicago Steel of United States Hockey League (USHL). Ostman’s best campaign with Maine came in his junior season of 2022-23, when he went 14-12-14 in 33 appearances with a .918 SV% and a 2.21 GAA. Despite an improved 13-6-1 record over 21 appearances in his senior season, he saw a slight drop-off in his individual numbers with a .892 SV% and a 2.81 GAA.

Ostman spent most of the 2024-25 season, his first as a pro, with the Kraken’s ECHL affiliate Kansas City Mavericks, where he impressed with a 21-7-4 record with a .903 SV% and a 2.52 GAA in 32 appearances. He also appeared in five games for Coachella Valley that season, going 2-1-2 with a .916 SV% and a 2.38 GAA, while making one relief appearance for Seattle.

At 6’4″ and 205 pounds, Ostman is prototypically sized goaltender known for his technical soundness.
