Myles was a third-round draft pick of the Devils, going 45th overall in the 1985 draft. He opted to go to college after he was drafted, spending four seasons with the University of Michigan. O’Connor then transitioned to professional hockey, starting out with the Devils’ AHL affiliate, the Utica Devils. After a full season in the AHL, he made his NHL debut in the 1990-91 season. He spent four full seasons with the Devils organization, playing 38 games at the NHL level, before moving on to the Ducks. He primarily played in the IHL with the San Diego Gulls, but played five games with Anaheim the season after the move, which would be his final stretch of NHL action. After three more seasons in the IHL with the Gulls, Houston Aeros and Cincinnati Cyclones, along with a season in Japan, before retiring from hockey.

Over the course of his career, O’Connor totaled three goals and four assists for seven points in 43 games in the NHL, along with 34 goals and 139 assists for 173 points in 385 games in the AHL and IHL.
