The Toronto Maple Leafs face the San Jose Sharks on Monday at Scotiabank Arena in the clubs' first encounter this season.
The matchup marks the first NHL meeting between 2026 draft selections Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg, selected first and second overall respectively. McKenna, 18, has recorded 2 goals and 5 points through 9 games while averaging 14:23 of ice time. His 4-game point streak ended with no points in his last two contests.
Stenberg, 19, has posted 2 goals and 6 points in 8 games, playing 15:51 per night. He registered a 2-point performance against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, scoring his second goal of the season. The Sharks forward indicated he sensed Toronto's lack of interest during the pre-draft process. "I didn't have good meetings with Toronto and didn't feel like it was the team for me," he said. Stenberg added he was "pretty sure" he would not go first overall and is "super happy" in San Jose.
Toronto recalled Vinni Lettieri amid injuries and a three-game losing skid. Lettieri has not appeared in a regular-season game during his second season with the organization.
