Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has identified Marc Guéhi as a future club captain, praising the centre-back's leadership qualities even as the player downplays his own influence.
Maresca described Guéhi as a "quite a quiet leader" and one of four captains in the squad. The England international has started every Premier League and Champions League match since joining from Crystal Palace in January.
Guéhi, who led Palace to their historic 2025 FA Cup triumph, has become a defensive mainstay under both Pep Guardiola and Maresca, partnering current captain Ruben Dias. Despite his rapid rise, Guéhi said he does not see himself as a leader and is trying to learn the nuances of leadership after only seven or eight months at the club.
The praise for Guéhi comes as Manchester City faces ongoing scrutiny following its guilty verdict for breaching Premier League financial regulations.
