ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller, whose serious car accident last month was followed by multiple online complaints about Miller’s handling of fantasy football leagues, paid scouting lessons, and charitable efforts, will be placed on leave.
Miller made the announcement on Twitter.
"A quick update: The surgery to remove my left arm was successful with hopes of an eventual prosthetic replacement," Miller said on Friday afternoon. "Similarly, the femur and patella surgeries were also successful and the fantastic surgery team was able to save my left leg. To best focus on my healing and recovery, I’m stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN. Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming."
The tweet makes no reference to the separate questions that have emerged. The Missouri Attorney General's Office has opened an investigation into the situation.
Obviously, Miller needs time to recover. His injuries were both extensive and horrific. The other issues likely won't go away. Depending on how they are resolved, his eventual return to ESPN could be complicated, regardless of his health.
The GoFundMe campaign launched by Miller's sister-in-law following the accident, which has raised more than $50,000, remains paused.
