Based on comments made by quarterback Brendan Sorsby's agent, Ron Slavin, regarding Cincinnati's alleged knowledge of Sorsby's gambling habit during his two years with the Bearcats, it was clear that the NCAA should investigate.

The NCAA is.

Via Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, the NCAA has sent "a letter of inquiry" to Cincinnati regarding Sorsby's time with the program.

Per the report, Cincinnati officials expect to respond "soon" to the communication.

Dellenger adds that a Cincinnati spokesperson declined to comment on the new development, but provided a general statement: "We have had continuous conversations with the NCAA since the initial reports related to impermissible sports wagering began. As we have stated before, we do not believe any athletics official or staff member was aware of any impermissible sports wagering."

Although the NCAA has lost much of its bite when it comes to players, the institution still has authority over its members. And if Cincinnati knew or had reason to know that Sorsby had lost his eligibility by betting on Indiana football while on the Indiana football roster but allowed him to play for two seasons, that would be a problem.
