As the SEC and LSU continue to battle over whether the Tigers will use former NFL players in Saturday night's regular-season opener, LSU's opponent has chimed in.

Via Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Clemson has informed LSU that playing former professional players on Saturday may constitute a breach of the game contract.

That said, Clemson said it intends to play the game — and that it is not seeking financial damages.

Obvious question: Why raise it if they're not going to do anything about it?

Obvious answer: It's another piece of performative nonsense aimed at getting a federal antitrust exemption.

And here's the final point for now, one that was made on Friday's PFT Live. Why are college teams making an issue out of using "professional" players? Currently, college football players are professional players.

The guys who want to return to LSU aren't doing it because they're choosing to eschew the riches of the NFL in an effort to win a national title. Playing for LSU pays them better than they'd be paid as members of a pro team's practice squad.
