The Edmonton Oilers have acquired goaltender Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres, the club announced on social media Wednesday afternoon.
In return for Levi, the Oilers sent the Sabres their own third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft. Edmonton also acquired a 2028 seventh-round pick in the trade.
Levi, 24, spent the entirety of the 2025-26 season with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. The 6′ goaltender from Quebec posted a 23-20-9 record, three shutouts, and a .904 save percentage in 52 games.
A seventh-round pick (No. 212 overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2020 NHL Draft, Levi spent just one season in the Florida organization before being traded to Buffalo alongside a 2022 first-round pick in exchange for forward Sam Reinhart. He played for Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, posting a 6-1-0 record and a .964 save percentage in seven games and winning a silver medal.
Levi spent the following two seasons at Northeastern University, establishing himself as one of the most highly-touted goaltending prospects in hockey. He posted a 21-10-1 record with a staggering .952 save percentage in 32 games at Northeastern in 2021-22 and was named the NCAA’s top goaltender, an award he won again after his sophomore year with the Huskies.
After signing his entry-level contract with the Sabres in 2023, Levi ultimately appeared in 39 NHL games over parts of three seasons in the club. However, he struggled to replicate his success at the NCAA and AHL levels in Buffalo, posting a 17-17-2 record and an .894 save percentage in his games with the Sabres.
Levi is entering the second half of a two-year contract that carries an $812,500 NHL cap hit. He is expected to compete for a spot in Edmonton alongside the likes of Tristan Jarry, Connor Ungar, and Matt Tomkins.
