It might be time to hire a new babysitter for the Walter Cup.

For the second time this summer, the PWHL’s championship trophy has apparently gone missing.

According to forward Shiann Darkangelo of the PWHL champion Montreal Victoire, the Walter Cup, or at least the replica version that has been circulating among the members of the Victoire this offseason, did not arrive in Brighton, Michigan for her planned celebration on Saturday.

It’s certainly time for a new shipping company to take over for the PWHL. Second Walter Cup celebration event cancelled in weeks for the trophy not arriving.

This note is from Shiann Darkangelo of the Montreal Victoire.

As of the time of this writing, nothing has been released stating that the trophy has since arrived in Brighton, or providing any information about its current whereabouts.

In her note to fans who were likely looking forward to seeing the Cup on Saturday, Darkangelo expressed her disappointment that the trophy did not arrive as scheduled.

“The Walter Cup did not arrive as expected yesterday, and unfortunately, it will not be at the Athleta event in Brighton today,” Darkangelo shared. “I know many of you were excited to see the cup, and I’m genuinely disappointed that it won’t be there.

This is now the second time this offseason that the Walter Cup was not where it was supposed to be. On August 21, the trophy did not arrive in Lethbridge, Alberta as expected, forcing Victoire forward Dara Greig to postpone her celebration with the Cup. On August 25, the trophy was located and reunited with the Victoire, with the PWHL releasing a statement that it had been “lost in shipment.”

Now that it has been lost for a second time, perhaps the PWHL will find other shipping arrangements for their championship trophy.

The Walter Cup is named after the PWHL’s founder and primary investor Mark Walter, along with his wife Kimbra. The trophy’s tumultuous summer is perhaps emblematic of Walter’s own recent troubles, as the businessman has been subject to FBI investigations into potentially illegal investments using money from his insurance companies.
