The New York Rangers added to their organizational depth on defense on Wednesday, as they signed defenseman Marc Del Gaizo to a two-year contract.
A native of New Jersey and product of the University of Massachusetts, Del Gaizo returns to the Northeastern United States after spending the 2025-26 season with the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate Laval Rocket, where he racked up 27 points in 63 games.
A fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators, Del Gaizo has 55 appearances at the NHL level under his belt, all with the Predators and spread over two seasons.
In 2024-25, the 26-year-old had 9 points in 46 games while skating an average of 16:45 of time on ice per game.

The Rangers were among the very busiest teams in the NHL on Wednesday, the start of the new league year and the opening of unrestricted free agency.
The Rangers also signed Glenn Gawdin to a two-year deal worth $850,000 per season. The 29-year-old has been one of the most productive forwards in the AHL the past three years, registering at least 50 points in each of the past three seasons. Gawdin last played in the NHL in 2023-24, and has one assist in 13 games over four seasons.
At the draft, Drury swung a blockbuster deal to add talented winger Pavel Dorofeyev from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a package comprised entirely of draft picks before signing him to a seven-year, $77 million contract to make him the new highest-paid skater on the team.
New York also added winger Oliver Bjorkstrand to a one-year contract worth $4.5 million in a bid to bolster its middle six forwards.
The Rangers are looking to improve their roster after two consecutive seasons of missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs following a Presidents’ Trophy win and run to the Eastern Conference Final in 2023-24.
