Positive news for a talented team in the Eastern Conference.

When speaking to reporters on Friday, Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff announced that defenseman Olen Zellweger has been cleared to return to action. He will make his debut with his new team on Saturday, when the Sabres play host to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Lindy said Zellweger cleared to play, and Zellweger is pumped and ready to go for his #Sabres debut as he noted, "I don't want to dip my toe in the water."

Zellweger hasn’t been part of the normal team practices for the past several days, as he’s been in concussion protocol. Zellweger is coming off the best season of his young NHL career. In 76 games with Anaheim last year, he posted seven goals, along with career highs in assists (15) and points (22), helping the Ducks reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2018. He missed the first round against the Edmonton Oilers, but returned to post two points in three games against the Vegas Golden Knights.

In 164 regular-season games, the Calgary native has scored 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points.
