Undefeated WBO light welterweight champion Shakur Stevenson has parted ways with Zuffa Boxing after formally requesting his release, which was granted this past weekend.
Stevenson, 29, signed a multi-fight deal with Dana White's promotional outfit in July but never competed under the banner. The 25-0 fighter captured the 140-pound title in January with a unanimous decision victory over Teofimo Lopez. He previously held belts at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight.
"I am now taking my career in my own hands," Stevenson said.
The champion intends to defend his title before eventually moving to the welterweight division. He is also launching his own promotional company and has expressed openness to collaborating with other promoters.
In other combat sports action, Daniel Dubois stopped Fabio Wardley in less than two rounds during a championship grudge match in London on Saturday. In Miami on Friday night, Delonte West was knocked out by Michael Beasley at Brand Risk 16.
