The New York Sirens have locked up one of their young stars.
The team announced Wednesday they re-signed forward Casey O’Brien to a two-year contract through the 2027-28 season. She was one of the team’s three protected players in Phase 1 of the league’s Expansion Player Distribution Process.
“I am so excited to be a Siren for the next two years,” O’Brien said in a news release. “I want to win, and I want to win here in New York. I believe in what we’re building here, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help create a championship-caliber team and culture.”
O’Brien, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, had a strong rookie campaign in 2025-26. She scored seven goals and added 15 assists for 22 points in 28 games with the Sirens. She was named a finalist for the 2026 PWHL Rookie of the Year award and was named a finalist on the All-Rookie team.
The Milton, Mass., native was a standout in college, a three-time NCAA National Champion with the University of Wisconsin. She posted 50 or more points in three of her five seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers, including an 88-point campaign in just 41 games in 2024-25. She won the 2025 Patty Kazmaier Award, given to the best player in college hockey.
In five seasons, she had 97 goals and 177 assists for 274 points in 182 career games. She graduated as the highest-scoring player in school history.
