The Dallas Stars signed forward David Perron to a one-year contract Friday, adding an experienced scorer as injuries mount among the forwards.
Perron's agreement will cost Dallas a prorated $850,000 against its salary cap in 2026-27. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman was the first journalist to report the move. At 38, Perron is embarking on his 20th NHL campaign and will suit up for his eighth franchise.
The move comes as Dallas copes with multiple injuries up front. Matt Duchene is expected to miss three months following core muscle surgery, and Oskar Back was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 14 with an upper-body injury suffered in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout victory over the Colorado Avalanche. The Stars have scored 16 goals while going 3-3-1 through their first seven games.
Perron recorded 28 points in 65 games last season after being traded from Ottawa to Detroit, and has 812 career points in 1,239 regular-season contests. He won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 and reached the Final with Vegas in 2018.
Stars general manager Jim Nill said Perron "brings a competitive mindset and a proven ability to perform in big moments." Coach Glen Gulutzan said Perron is expected to receive his visa Sunday, Oct. 18, and will need to skate a few times before debuting. Perron joins Michael Bunting and Carson Soucy as notable signings since the season began.
