As reported by The Sheet’s Jeff Marek, one of the top prospects for the 2027 NHL Draft – forward Carter Meyer – is set to leave the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.
The QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts currently own his CHL rights.
Meyer was set to be the highest-profile prospect on the USNTDP for 2026-27 after putting up excellent numbers this past season. He had 18 goals and 45 points in 41 games with the U-17 squad, and another 25 points in 29 games while playing up with the U-18 team. Internationally, Meyer was one of the top players at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge, with 10 points in four games, and added another five points in a big role at the U-18 World Championship in April.
Meyer was drafted 17th overall by the Remparts in 2025, but elected to join the USNTDP. The 17-year-old is also committed to Boston University of the NCAA. Meyer reportedly requested a release from the USNTDP earlier this spring.
Meyer is the son of former NHLer Freddy Meyer. Meyer played for the USNTDP himself in the late 1990s and also represented the USA at the 2001 World Juniors and the 2006 World Championship. The hard-hitting defender had 20 goals and 73 points in 281 NHL games over seven seasons.
Meyer, a center, was ranked No. 5 on Daily Faceoff’s initial 2027 NHL Draft board. Meyer is a powerful skater who controls the puck with ease. He’s not big, but he’s physically strong and plays a fearless brand of hockey. Offensively, Meyer is always looking to receive a pass, but he has an impressive shot release, as well.
Other highly rated QMJHL players include Alexis Joseph (No. 3), Jamie Glance (No. 27) and James Scantlebury (No. 29). The Remparts finished ninth in the QMJHL this past season with a 32-25-6-1 record.
Notably, Québec will host the second game of the 2026 CHL USA Prospects Challenge on December 2, featuring the top draft-eligible CHLers going up against the U-18 USNTDP roster.
