Two players landed on the NHL’s waiver wire on Tuesday as the league’s 32 teams continue to gear up for their first games of the 2026-27 regular season.
The Buffalo Sabres have placed veteran forward Conor Sheary on waivers; additionally, the New York Rangers have made defenseman Vincent Iorio available on the waiver wire.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman took to Twitter on Tuesday to post the full waiver list, which was considerably shorter than the ones we saw in the lead-up to Monday’s deadline for teams to set their Opening Day rosters.
Sheary, 34, signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Sabres on July 1, rejoining the team he previously played for from 2018 to 2020. The 5’8″ winger spent the 2025-26 season with the Rangers, collecting seven goals and 18 points in 62 games.
A veteran of 11 NHL seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, Rangers, and Sabres, Sheary has collected 131 goals and 285 points over 655 regular-season games. The Winchester, Mass. product has added seven goals and 23 points in 72 playoff contests, most notably helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 2016 and 2017.
Iorio, 23, is a much less established pro than Sheary. The 6’4″ right-shot defender split the 2025-26 season between the Rangers and San Jose Sharks organizations, collecting three assists in 27 NHL games.
A second-round pick (No. 55 overall) of the Capitals in the 2021 NHL Draft, Iorio played his junior hockey with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings before turning pro with the AHL’s Hershey Bears in 2022. The Coquitlam, B.C. product has appeared in 196 AHL games over parts of four seasons with Hershey and the San Jose Barracuda, collecting 11 goals and 63 points; he’s amassed seven points in 31 playoff contests, helping Hershey win the Calder Cup in 2023 and 2024.
Tyson Jost, the only player waived by any NHL team on Monday, officially cleared on Tuesday and is now eligible to be assigned to the Milwaukee Admirals, the Nashville Predators‘ AHL affiliate.
