Andy Dalton has signed with the Atlanta Falcons, who released Cooper Rush to create a roster spot for the 38-year-old quarterback.
Dalton declined an offer to rejoin Philadelphia, where he had spent part of this season. The Eagles acquired him from Carolina in March, but he appeared in only one contest, tossing an interception while Jalen Hurts was being evaluated for a concussion. Philadelphia released Dalton following that game, then attempted to bring him back after Hurts landed on injured reserve with a blood clot.
Atlanta has already used four quarterbacks this year: Rush, Michael Penix, Jack Strand, and Tua Tagovailoa. Dalton could become the fifth signal-caller to take the field for the Falcons this season.
An observer noted, "If Penix stays healthy, Dalton will stay on the sideline, but that's a pretty big 'if'."
