Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Jet Greaves is getting set to embark on the biggest season of his young career next month.

After helping to fuel the Jackets’ late push for a Stanley Cup Playoff berth that ultimately fell short, the 25-year-old finished his first season as an NHL starter with a 26-19-9 record to go with a .908 save percentage and 2.60 goals against average.

Now, after avoiding arbitration by reaching an agreement with the team on a new three-year contract with a salary cap hit of $5 million per season, Greaves is looking to do everything he can to help Columbus reach the postseason for the first time since 2020.

On Thursday’s episode of The Sheet with Jeff Marek, Greaves dropped by to discuss his eventful offseason, from going through the process of avoiding arbitration to what he’s working on to improve his game over the summer.

Jeff Marek: I’m curious what you work on specifically in the summers. The one thing about goaltenders now, goaltenders skate better now than we’ve ever seen, like in the history of the game, period. What do you work on in the summers?

Jet Greaves: I’ll start with off the ice. For me conditioning is a huge thing. I think you look at some of the best guys in the NHL and you see how many games they’re able to play in the season. I think that takes a toll on your body, and I think it’s super important to be prepared for that physically. Having really strong conditioning can help your recovery, help you throughout the game, help you in long games in the playoffs and things like that… And then on the ice, you touched on the skating a lot. I think what we do a lot with my goalie coach is, in the summer because we have the luxury of that time and we can be in a really controlled setting, we really break down a lot of the movements that happen in a game and slow them down. Where are the inefficiencies? How can this be more polished, quicker, more controlled, etc… And then how do we work this into the games so that it happens more subconsciously?
