The semifinals and championship game of the 2026 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament will take place at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The 94-year-old venue is on the campus of the University of Virginia and serves as the home stadium for the Cavaliers’ football team.
This year marks the third time Scott Stadium has hosted the men’s lacrosse semifinals and national championship and the first since 1982.
The event was originally scheduled to be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots, but the site was chosen as one of the host sites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which begins next month. The conflict necessitated a change, with the NCAA announcing Scott Stadium as the replacement venue on May 24, 2025.
The 61,500-seat stadium will be the first venue on a college campus to host the Division I lacrosse national championship since 2002, when it was played at Rutgers.
"The Division I Men's Lacrosse Committee is excited to head to Charlottesville for a fantastic championship experience in 2026," Matt Colagiovanni, the committee chair and deputy athletics director at Rutgers, said in a statement last year. "We are thrilled to work with the University of Virginia staff and local community to provide an outstanding championship experience for the student-athletes as the event returns to a college campus setting. This is a tremendous opportunity, as fans from across the country will experience Charlottesville as the host of the national semifinals and the national championship game. We thank Virginia for their strong bid to host, and the committee looks forward to collaborating closely to make this a memorable event for everyone involved."
Every NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse championship since the first one in 1971 has been held in a location in the northeast or mid-Atlantic.
The four teams remaining in the 2026 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament are Syracuse, Duke, Notre Dame and Princeton.
The field includes three of the top six national seeds: No. 1 Princeton, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 6 Syracuse. Duke entered the tournament without being one of the top eight seeds nationally, but beat No. 4 Richmond and Georgetown to make it to the national semifinals.
The Tigers are going for their seventh NCAA championship and first since 2001. The Fighting Irish are aiming to win their third national title in the past four years. Syracuse has won the tournament a Division I-best 11 times while Duke has won it three times, most recently in 2014.
