Randy Miller and Bob Klapisch of NJ.com discussed Brian Cashman trades, signings and roster moves, noting that Stanton became injury-prone, Gallo forgot how to hit and McMahon was bad overall. The pair called the Chisholm Jr. trade a mistake, though a source disagreed and noted he helped the 2024 World Series and is a 2025 major contributor.
Jon Heyman via MLB Trade Rumors reported that the Yankees previously showed interest in Nationals CF Jacob Young. Young, 27 and arbitration-eligible for the first time, posted a 95 wRC+ in 2026 as a career-high and recorded +49 Outs Above Average, second to Pete Crowe-Armstrong. The Nationals explored moving Young in the past, and the Yankees and Nationals made deals at the past two trade deadlines.
Keith Law of The Athletic wrote that AFL testing of outfield alignment restrictions with Statcast was a "misfire." The rule placed corner outfielders closer to the lines and center fielders more shallow, causing balls down the lines to become outs at a weirdly high rate. Law noted the test was flawed because many AFL players were learning positions for the first time.
Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reported that Guardians and Rays Game 4 was postponed for rain, eliminating an offday. MLB played the Thursday game daytime to get ahead of the storm but still brought fans to the ballpark. Lloyd said: "$70 to park, $30 on beer and nachos."
Mike Axisa of CBS Sports named the Yankees one of three likely next "superteams" alongside the Brewers and Dodgers. CBA negotiations are coming and a lockout is looming.
