The Angels will not retain Kurt Suzuki as manager, declining his 2027 club option after a single season at the helm, the team announced Wednesday.
Interim general manager John Mozeliak revealed the decision in a prepared statement, saying the club will now search for a new manager and coaching staff. Mozeliak defended Suzuki's performance, stating he did not believe the team's record reflected Suzuki's abilities as a manager. Mozeliak also noted that Suzuki had earned tremendous respect in the clubhouse.
The organization offered Suzuki a position as special assistant if he wishes to remain with the franchise. Some members of the coaching staff were also offered roles within the organization.
Mozeliak expressed gratitude to the entire coaching staff for its professionalism and hard work. The managerial change comes amid broader organizational transition, with new ownership and a new general manager now in place.
