Arsenal moved level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City after a 2-0 home victory over Everton on Saturday. Defenders Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães scored in each half to lift the defending champions, who claimed their first title since 2003-04 last season.
The result left Arsenal tied with City at the summit, with the gap now only goal difference. Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the campaign, falling 2-1 at Aston Villa under Enzo Maresca and ending a run of seven consecutive league victories. City were found guilty of 114 of 115 charges related to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules last month and have lodged an appeal.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his side's display. "I loved the mentality of the team and the quality they showed today," he said. The Gunners have conceded just five goals in eight matches, sharing the league's best defensive record with Brighton, and have scored 13 times.
Arsenal next face Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Nov. 29. The hosts were without Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Christos Tzolis through injury, while Everton missed Jack Grealish and Jarrad Branthwaite.
