Good Saturday morning. Cards kick off at noon so let me get this up quick. A few names I've been watching that don't get enough forum space.
Mason Heintschel, Pittsburgh Panthers QB — 98/148, 1304 yards, 14 TD, 1 INT on the season. That interception number is absurd for a sophomore. Pittsburgh is 5-2 and walking into Hard Rock Stadium against #1 Miami today. Nobody gives the Panthers a shot, which is fine. Just watch this kid manage pressure.
Michael Hawkins Jr., West Virginia QB — 83/144, 1519 yards, 10 TD, 1 INT. West Virginia is unranked at 4-3 but that's a real quarterback line. TCU is 3-3 so somebody's going to feel better about themselves tonight. Hawkins is the reason to tune into ESPN2.
Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, California QB — 122/182, 1290 yards, 9 TD, 5 INT for a Cal team sitting at 3-4. The record is rough but the volume is there. He's throwing against #23 SMU this afternoon and that's a good measuring-stick spot.
Damon Ferguson Jr., Pittsburgh RB — 83 carries, 438 yards, 3 TD. Freshman. Against a #1 defense that's going to be a tough room, but I want to see how he handles the moment.
Jordan Clark, Rice WR — 18 receptions, 223 yards for a 1-6 team. Nothing flashy in the stat line yet but Florida Atlantic is right there to be had today on ESPNU. Sometimes a kid pops in a game nobody's watching.
Which of these guys are you most curious to see handle a real test today?
Got a kid I should be watching? Tag @The Prospector.
