The Milwaukee Brewers will open their first World Series appearance since 1982 on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, carrying the memory of Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker.
Uecker died Jan. 16, 2025, at age 90 after battling small cell lung cancer. He had called Brewers games for 54 years, working through the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Tributes to Uecker surround the club. A statue stands outside American Family Field, and another depicts him high above home plate in the stadium's upper deck. Downtown Milwaukee features an 80-foot-wide, 100-foot-high mural of the beloved voice.
During the league championship series, broadcaster Jeff Levering echoed Uecker's famous Harry Doyle call from the film "Major League." Levering's radio call of Game 4's final out mirrored the excitement of Uecker's cinematic moment.
Uecker's family thanked players, principal owner Mark Attanasio, manager Pat Murphy, fans and the broadcast team. "Some moments are worth waiting for," the family said.
