Hockey Canada has named a 25-player roster for the 2026 IIHF Women's World Championship in Denmark next month, marking the beginning of a new era for the national team.
The squad features significant turnover from the group that won Olympic silver in Milan this February. Only 13 players from that Olympic roster will compete at worlds, while seven athletes will make their world championship debut. Four newcomers come directly from NCAA programs. The average age sits below 26, the youngest Canadian entry at the Women's Worlds since 2015 and more than three years younger than the Olympic team.
Veterans Sarah Nurse, Brianne Jenner, Jocelyne Larocque, Emerance Maschmeyer and Natalie Spooner are absent due to injuries or missed training camp. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin remains sidelined after knee surgery last summer. New general manager Daniele Sauvageau said the selection process is "giving many players who wouldn't have been given a sniff by the previous regime a chance."
Head coach Kori Cheverie takes over from Troy Ryan, while Sauvageau replaced Gina Kingsbury. Notable young talents include 19-year-old defender Chloe Primerano, forward Rosalie Tremblay — the youngest Canadian to dress at worlds since Poulin in 2009 — and goaltender Eve Gascon. PWHL veterans Nicole Gosling, Sarah Wozniewicz and Kayle Osborne also join the squad.
Canada enters the tournament on an eight-game losing streak to rival USA, which captured 2026 Olympic gold and two of the past three world titles.
